Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center: Updated and Expanded Career Skills

The award-winning Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center is continuously updated with fresh and current career information and insights. Most recently, content has been thoroughly expanded and updated in the Career Skills section of the “Job-Hunting and Workplace Skills” landing page—presenting essential information for understanding and mastering career and workplace readiness skills and serving a direct need in career education and preparation.

In recent years, many employers, educational institutions, politicians, and government officials have expressed concern over the “Skills Gap,” a lack of basic workplace knowledge and skills among people entering the workforce for the first time. Surveys by the National Association of Colleges and Employers have identified key skills areas ranked most important by employers. The Career Skills content users can find in Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center directly covers each of those key skills—many of which transcend career exploration and can also be applied to academic success strategies and general life skills.

The nine Career Skills, each containing related Skill Tips and Exercises, include:

  • Communication Skills
  • Ethics and Etiquette
  • Finding a Job
  • Leadership Skills
  • Learning the Ropes
  • Organization Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Research and Information Management
  • Teamwork Skills.

Users can find the Career Skills sections by going to the “Launch Your Career” drop-down menu at the top of any page and clicking on “Career Skills,” or by clicking on the “More Resources” link in the “Launch Your Career” section of the home page.
